Our Love Story
From the Lantern to I Do
In a world surrounded by online dating, Allie and Ryan were fortunate enough to meet the old-fashioned way—at a bar.
It all began on a hot summer evening in July of 2017, when Allie and her friend Jordan decided on a casual night out in downtown Naperville. A few stops later, they wandered into The Lantern, where Jordan spotted Ryan and made the introduction. Sparks flew almost instantly—even if Allie lost every round of darts that night. By the end of the evening, Ryan asked her on a date, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The early years of their relationship meant plenty of commuting between Chicago and Naperville. Long hours of traffic couldn’t keep them apart, and they made the most of every opportunity to be together. In 2020, Allie and Ryan moved into their first home—right as the pandemic began. Those months of lockdown became an unexpected test, but also a season that taught them to lean on God and on one another as they learned to navigate cohabitation, career changes, the loss of loved ones, and life’s unexpected challenges.
In 2021, Allie and Ryan became “fur parents” to two sweet rabbits, Koda and Kai. What began as a pair soon grew into a family of four with the additions of Josie and Franklin, much to Allie’s delight. By the summer of 2023, Ryan knew it was time to ask the question that had been on his heart for years.
On another hot summer evening in July of 2023, during a weekend getaway with friends at a lake house in Wisconsin, Ryan prepared for the perfect moment. As the sun dipped behind the trees, he set up an archway framed by glowing tiki torches, casting a golden light across the path. When Allie stepped outside—still sleepy from a car nap and wrapped in her oversized sweatshirt and slippers—she had no idea what awaited her. The world seemed to pause as she saw Ryan standing beneath the arch, his eyes filled with love and anticipation. Though she may have been caught off guard by the timing (and her outfit), the moment overflowed with joy, laughter, and happy tears as Ryan took her hands and dropped to one knee.
What happened next remains a blur—they both describe it as being swept away in “an overwhelming amount of love.” Ryan’s first clear memory was of Allie taking the ring box from his hands to admire the sparkle. Before she could slip the ring out herself, Ryan gently took the box, placed the ring on her finger, and asked, “So… is that a yes?” Overcome with emotion, Allie nodded through tears of joy and fell into his arms.
Now, after more than eight years together, Allie and Ryan look back with deep gratitude on the journey that has brought them here—the laughter, the challenges, the late-night drives, and the little family they’ve built. With hearts overflowing, they joyfully step into their next chapter—trusting in God’s grace and surrounded by the steadfast love and support of their cherished family and friends.
Each wedding guest has influenced us to be the people we are today. Thank you for your support throughout the years.
“I feel so blessed to have spent nearly all of my twenties with Ryan. Over the past eight years, we’ve grown and changed—through our careers, our walk with God, and our hopes for one another—and I’m so proud of how we’ve continued to love and embrace each new version of one another. I am beyond grateful for a partner who supports and loves me unconditionally, and I cannot wait to call him my husband!”
- Alexandria ("Allie") Byrum
"All my life I’ve wondered about what my happy ending would look like, and now I can’t imagine it being with anyone but Allie. I’m so blessed to have a partner that supports me in everything I do, and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with her. In the good times and the bad we’ve had each other to lean on. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that will never change.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony will be held outdoors at the Myriad Gardens. The cocktail hour and reception will be hosted indoors at the Skirvin Hotel.
What is the appropriate wedding attire?
Think "black tie optional"—without the pressure.
Suggestions include:
For men, a suit or a dinner jacket with a tie and slacks.
For Ladies, a floor-length dress (midi/maxi dress), a formal dress, or an elegant pantsuit.
We appreciate you dressing to match the occasion!
Please note that portions of the event will be held on grass. If stilettos are part of your ensemble, just a heads-up—they might not play well with the lawn!
